1. Check that you can vote

You can vote as a Parksville resident if you:

  • Are a Canadian citizen.
  • Will be 18 or older by October 17, 2026.
  • Have lived in BC for at least six months before registering.
  • Live within the City of Parksville on the day you register.
  • Are not legally disqualified from voting.

Renters and homeowners can both vote. A “Parksville” mailing address alone does not establish eligibility: some addresses are outside the city boundary. Check the City’s eligibility guidance if you’re unsure.

Own property in Parksville but live elsewhere in BC?

You may qualify as a non-resident property elector. Additional rules apply, including at least 30 days of registered ownership before registration, proof of ownership, and written consent from a majority of the other owners if the property is jointly owned. There is no corporate vote.

Check the full property elector requirements and consent form or call the City before voting.

2. Choose when and where

Vote early

or Wednesday, October 148 a.m. to 8 p.m. both days

All dates are in 2026. Official dates and locations.

3. Bring two pieces of ID

You register when you arrive to vote. Bring one piece showing your name and address, and another showing your name and signature.

For example, bring your BC driver’s licence and a utility bill. Other accepted documents include a passport, BC Services Card, bank card or Parksville property tax notice.

No ID showing your current address? Bring two pieces of ID, at least one with a signature. The City says you can make a solemn declaration of your residency.

See the City’s ID requirements. Questions about your documents? Contact the election office before you go.

Prefer to vote by mail?

Eligible voters can apply for a mail ballot through the City.

  1. Visit the City’s voting options page and follow its mail ballot link, or contact the election office for an application.
  2. Complete the application and follow the City’s instructions to receive your package.
  3. Complete and return your ballot using the instructions in the package.

Your ballot must reach the Chief Election Officer by 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 17. Allow time for delivery. Contact the City about return options if time is short.

Help accessing your vote

Accessible locations & curbside voting

The City provides accessible voting locations. If mobility or health makes entering the building difficult, you can vote curbside on either advance voting day or election day. An election official will bring you a ballot. Contact the City for details.

Voting in seniors’ care facilities

The City also offers special voting opportunities at several seniors’ care facilities. Ask your facility staff or the election office whether your residence is included and when voting will take place.

Help with a mail ballot application

City staff can answer application questions. Family, friends, caregivers and facility staff may also help you find information and complete application materials where permitted.

Getting there by transit

City election staff have advised that free RDN transit is expected on October 17. Check RDN Transit for confirmation, routes, schedules and service details before travelling.
