RDN Strategic Plan 2023-2026

I’m honoured to serve as an alternate representative for the City of Parksville on the Regional District of Nanaimo board. The RDN has a huge role to play in our region for all kinds of things from recreational services, waste management, and planning for regional growth.

The RDN’s new Strategic Plan has been released. This guiding document outlines the Board’s vision, role, and commitments in the coming 3 years.

🎯 The Board has identified five strategic areas of focus, reflecting the most critical opportunities and challenges facing our region:

1️⃣ Protecting our vital lands and ecosystems: Our commitment to acquiring regional parkland and preserving natural areas with significant conservation and recreation value is paramount. This contributes to the well-being of our community and the environment.

2️⃣ Managing impacts of climate change: We are dedicated to understanding the effects and risks of a changing climate on our communities. Our goal is to develop effective, science-based strategies for adaptation and mitigation.

3️⃣ Planning and managing for growth: We aim to plan for and manage growth in our region, ensuring it aligns with the needs of our communities while maintaining environmental sustainability and enhancing the quality of life.

4️⃣ Water security: Our focus is on stewarding our region’s watersheds and water resources sustainably. We’re committed to ensuring an adequate quantity and quality of water to meet domestic and agricultural needs.

5️⃣ Advocacy: Effective communication is key! We will represent our region’s challenges, needs, and objectives to provincial and federal governments. Our goal is to compel appropriate responses to critical issues impacting our communities.

As always, I invite you to reach out with any comments, questions, or suggestions.
